After many months of incubation the new Marden Cricket & Hockey Club website is finally here – an online ‘home’ for the club.
This is an important step and allows us to showcase the club. For members of course, but also our neighbours, sponsors, visitors and others.
It also gives us a convenient, centralised hub for the club as a whole. Members and visitors can get an overview and find out What’s On and Who’s Who.
And the club now has an appropriate place for all kinds of governance requirements regarding membership, AGMs, policies and the like. This is essential for a modern, well managed club. It also gives us a chance to recognise our sponsors and advertisers and, in time, offer new opportunities for generating income for the club.
Currently each sport has its own dedicated mini-website or platform (eg Pitchero) where players can find all the detail they need. The new website links to these via a ‘dashboard’ for each sport. These sport-specific platforms will not be replaced: they will still have the usual detail and will need to be maintained as currently.
As with most websites, we will no doubt continue to tinker and improve. That said, the primary aim has been to avoid creating a beast that requires substantial maintenance. This is deliberately a fairly simple, low cost and low maintenance website.
It has taken up considerable volunteer time too, and with invaluable input from all sections of the club, so special recognition to our own cricketer Freddy Hoare of SQI who has been instrumental in delivering it.
Additional info
- The website is responsive and has versions for mobile and tablet devices.
- Jo Hayes will be maintaining all Covid updates via a G-Drive (General protocols, plus sport specific versions).
- Phoebe will be maintaining the What’s On calendar. This is starting super basic (eg for Hockey it will flag ‘Hockey Match Day’ rather than provide all details of all fixtures (which can often change). Details of course will be in the usual places. As things bed down, we/she can evolve this page.
- Russell Wheldon will be looking after the website and maintaining other pages, especially with help from Freddy Hoare.
- We can make changes if a link/email/name needs updating etc. If you notice issues or would like an announcement we can discuss – please contact Russell (marketing@mardenchc.co.uk).
Some pages (eg What’s On) are works in progress and inevitably there will be errors and room for improvement. We will do our best to move it on (websites are generally out of date the minute they go live obviously) but will be restricted by cost and tech skill.
In short we have been keen to avoid creating a huge headache and duplication of info.
The website is primarily a shop window that we hope is useful for members and which acts as an introduction to Marden Cricket & Hockey Club.
