Sunday 13th September saw an epic clash between the glorious Saints and the mighty Sinners. As one of nation’s favourite highlights of the élite sporting calendar it delivered.
It proved a close-run game with great skills and showmanship on display. OK, and some inept fielding, weak bowling and poor stroke play.
But the spirit was there and it was a great atmosphere with a big crowd of spectators who basked in the late summer sun and enjoyed picnics and a barbecue courtesy of Sean from the West End Tavern (Big Thanks to him for helping out). The event was expertly compered by the silky tones and bangin’ tunes of Toby PC and attended by Robin Judd, who established the fixture back in 2004.
Everyone played a part (Charlie Newport and Ollie Payne-Cook excelled) and the mantra of the day was that the real winner on the day was cricket.
Raising a few quid for local charities has always been a key part of the fixture and this year £440 was raised. This included a donation from the club and a contribution from the bar takings. £220 each went to Marden church and Marden History Group.
