Away from the playing areas there is always plenty of work going on behind the scenes. Regardless of play, bad weather or global pandemics, the maintenance can’t stop.
Weeds have a habit of returning, trees need nurturing, hedges cutting and grass has to be mown. Even the astro pitches and tennis courts require some tlc to keep surfaces clear and weed-free. Paul Bowles, our groundsman, looks after a great deal but is supported by plenty of volunteers who help him out, often unnoticed by most members.
Tony, normally at work in the clubhouse, has also been beavering away outside, helping tame the weeds and undergrowth in some areas where things have ‘got away’.
As the trees shoot up and the (still young) hedging matures we’ll be managing it to ensure a really good looking ground with plenty of natural appeal for years to come.
