As summer faded, the achievements of Ollie Payne-Cook and Max Moen hit the headlines in the local newspapers and took over the back page of the Courier. It may have been a disjointed summer of cricket but the dashing duo, friends since the age of 9, scored maiden centuries in the same weekend.
Max knocked 106 against Hadlow on 23rd August while Ollie scored 145 runs against Bells Yew Green the next day. (He also topped that off with a 6 for 43 haul).
Both are a product of the Marden Colts system and have played together from the Under 10s through Development sides, 2nd XI and now the Men’s 1st XI.
The big score was a moment to savour for Ollie: “It meant a lot to me get a century for Marden where I’ve been playing since before I can remember. Scoring it on the same weekend as my friend Max was amazing and is something I’ll always remember. Hopefully I’ll get some more soon!”
Their success is testament to the dedication of numerous coaches who give their time and commitment week after week. Richard Thomas, Chairman, commented “It’s good to see juniors coming through the ranks, starting in one of our Colts squads and emerging to score their maiden ton for the seniors”.
