Padel is a fast growing sport that appeals to all ages and abilities. Easy to play and easy to learn, it’s a fusion of squash and tennis, played on an enclosed court with 4 players using solid bats rather than strung rackets. The glass walls can be used for play (like squash) and rallies are often much longer than tennis. Strategy and placement is often more important than athleticism and power so physical ability does not guarantee victory!

Introductory Period

At Marden we are a volunteer driven club. We have been excited to bring padel to our corner of rural Kent and, over time, plan to introduce changes to the operation of the club – for the benefit of all, not just padel players.

Over an initial trial period, these will be reviewed and modified as necessary. Aspects like longer clubhouse opening hours, costs of court hire and more are subject to changes as we navigate this exciting new venture.

Padel FAQs

Yes, this is definitely a family friendly activity, allowing groups of mixed ages and abilities to play together.

Padel bats can be hired from the clubhouse for a modest fee and padel balls can be purchased. We plan to stock a few bats for purchase.

No. Padel balls are of similar size and weight to tennis balls but are of lower pressure.

The game is intended for doubles, due to the smaller size court (relative to tennis) and higher speed of the game. It’s very hard to cover the court when playing singles.

Yes, we plan to introduce tournaments, Americanos and ladders for those seeking competitive play.

Quite simply, jump in and have a go. We’ll be running regular Mix In sessions (just turn up & play, quick-fire games, rotating players as much as possible so no one has to wait too long). ‘Have A Go’ sessions for existing sport sections are planned, as well as ad hoc informal clinics.

We plan to offer padel coaching with a professional partner, to be announced in due course.

It was invented in Mexico in 1969 (though similar games were played on transatlantic cruise ships in the early 20th century).
